SEE
Stuttgart City with Energy Efficiency

In June 2011 the project “SEE – Stuttgart City with Energy Efficiency”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (duration June 2011 – May 2016), has successfully started. The project is co-ordinated by the Environmental Protection Office of Stuttgart. Project partners are Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, and various departments of the University of Stuttgart, among ZIRIUS.

The transformation of the energy supply system in Germany contains specific challenges for cities and municipalities. Various strategies and energy efficiency measures are necessary in order to meet 20% energy reduction goals in 2020. Energy efficiency measures refer to the reduction of the demand for energy services, to improvements in energy efficiency as well as to the expansion of the share of sustainable energy resources. Hence energy efficiency measures are complex and can only be realized if they are jointly developed and improved with local stakeholders and citizens.

The contribution of ZIRIUS in the project will mainly focus on the development and organization of local communication measures, accompanying the process of implementing energy saving and energy efficiency measures.
